Youth Earn-A-Bike (EAB)
Thanks to a generous grant from the Fund for Santa Barbara, Bici Centro has the start-up money needed to develop a youth Earn-a-Bike program hosted by at the Casa de la Raza. Bici Centro is currently working with Casa staff to develop a comprehensive program as part of its afterschool program.
Many Santa Barbara youth do not bike ride because of a lack of knowledge, enjoyment or because they simply do not own a bike. At the same time, without constructive opportunities for our youth, they increasingly engage in drug use, graffiti, and gang violence.
EAB will roughly consist of:
- Street Skills cycling classes - 10 hours
- Bike Maintenance Classes - 10 hours
- Each youth working on own bicycle - 5 hours
- Fun Bike Ride- 5 hours
