-We need to have actually campaigns which will allow us to get national grants
-Advocacy committee: also connected to our work with SLOC (ie: McCune grant)
-Milpas is really important part of SB but gets less attention
    -is very unsafe: no infrastructure
-has lots of pedestrians and cyclists
-there have been studies done recommending reducing lanes and putting in bikes
-but businesses shot this down because they fear loosing customers who drive
-pedestrian recently killed by driver, community organizing to improve situation
-new option: reduce traffic lanes in lower 3 blocks (adjacent to high school and
    middle school)
-put in bike lines, eventually widen sidewalks

-Connection to SLOC: we need to get local residents involved
    -heavily Hispanic neighborhood

    -idea of Christine and Carmen
    -maybe chocolate and wine?
-joint fundraiser for Education/SLOC committees for concrete needs for next year
-we’d have registration with passport, stamps, etc.
-based on LA Bike coalitions “Tour de Taste” and EDC “Ride on the Wild Side”
    -the committee is generally enthusiastic
    -looking for feedback and ideas:
-Funding: need to purchase wine & chocolate
-Timing: maybe do it in the summer – if French themed, it could be on
    Bastille Day (7/14)
-Christine and Carmen know some of the people we’d visit
-Marketing: targeting our sister coalitions from nearby towns
-also could market to French community if we keep French theme
